ENRESA has awarded INGECID the contract for “Type B packaging design services for the transport of radioactive material,” following a tender process in which the company submitted the best technical and economic bid according to the weighting of the established criteria. This project strengthens INGECID's collaboration with ENRESA in the field of nuclear engineering and the safe management of radioactive material transport.
The contract covers the design of type B(U) packaging intended to form a package suitable for transport by road, rail, and sea, both nationally and internationally. This type of packaging must comply with the most stringent safety and strength requirements established in international regulations, ensuring the integrity of the radioactive contents under normal and accidental transport conditions.
As part of the scope of the project, INGECID will carry out mathematical simulations of the tests and trials necessary to ensure that the designed packaging complies with the technical and safety criteria required for its certification as type B(U) packaging, in accordance with ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), RID (International Regulations concerning the Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail), and IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code) regulations.
This project consolidates INGECID's experience in developing highly complex engineering solutions in the nuclear field, contributing to the safety and traceability of radioactive material transport processes under the highest international standards.
