INGECID is one of the seven partners of the LIFE COSTAdapta project, using an innovative methodology to address the issue of how the coast of Gran Canaria can adapt to rising sea levels.
A progressive tidal pool-reef system will be designed and tested, combining traditional tidal pool construction techniques with advanced solutions.
It is hoped that the project will contribute to the progressive adaptation of the coast of Gran Canaria to climate change, crucial given the vulnerability of the Canary Islands to climate impacts, including rising sea levels. It will also contribute to preserving tourism in the region, will have social benefits and help stabilize the coastline.
The seven-year project is coordinated by the Gran Canaria Island Energy Council (CIEGC) of the CABILDO DE GRAN CANARIA, and has a total budget of €3,409,864 (€2,045,818 subsidized by the European Union through the LIFE Program).
This project forms part of our ongoing commitment to the environment, developing sustainable solutions.
