The project "Research for the development of a new storage system to optimize radioactive waste management" has received a grant co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Cantabria ERDF Operational Programme 2014-2020 as part of the INNOVA 2021 awards, supporting innovation, research and product design.

Its main aim is to optimize the capacity of the El Cabril storage facility by reducing the number of packages generated during the management of low- and medium-level waste from nuclear power plants.

INGECID has presented a highly innovative design for the project. Optimizing volumes translates directly into a reduction in the number of drums needed for the storage of nuclear waste, offering significant benefits over other solutions on the market today.
