Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest multi-program science and technology laboratory in the United States, its mission being to deliver the scientific discoveries and technical breakthroughs needed to realize solutions in energy and national security. The products developed by ORNL include the SCALE package, a comprehensive modeling and simulation suite for nuclear safety analysis and design.
Each year, ORNL organizes the SCALE Users' Group Workshop, a gathering for SCALE users and developers to share useful knowledge, including a mix of short presentations, open discussions, and mentoring sessions.
This year, the workshop took place from July 27 to 29 and was attended by experts from many companies and countries, who gave presentations on the most notable and innovative applications of SCALE.
This year, a competition was held to select the best SCALE model among all participating companies. All workshop attendees were able to vote, including ORNL staff.
INGECID presented a detailed model of the ORANO MATRIX built with MAVRIC, one of the codes in the SCALE package ("SCALE/MAVRIC Model of MATRIX: An Orano TN Americas Product for Spent Fuel Storage"), which was selected as the best model submitted by non-ORNL attendees and also as the best model submitted by all attendees.
The ORNL will publish the winning models in its annual calendar.
