The Plan, which has been approved by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) and recently published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria (BOC) adds Cantabria to the list of Autonomous Communities that have a special Radiation Emergency Response Plan. Its main aim is to ensure that the organization, procedures, means and resources needed are available to protect the public against the risks that could affect them in the event of a radiation emergency.
The RADIOCANT plan ensures the authorities will be able to handle any radiation emergencies that occur in Cantabria that could pose a risk to people, property or the environment.
The details of the Special Plan will be tested in an exercise simulating a major accident involving a radioactive source, coordinated by the Government of Cantabria and the CSN, together with the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital (HUMV), with the participation of staff from various services.
It gives us great pride that the Civil Protection service has entrusted INGECID with the preparation of this Plan. This achievement is thanks to our knowledge acquired over years in the field of radiation protection and our experience working in nuclear and radioactive facilities, enabling us to draw up and implement measures that ensure we can respond appropriately to this type of emergency.
