The Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) has approved the request for authorization to build and assemble the Individualized Temporary Storage Facility (ATI) at the Vandellòs II Nuclear Power Plant in Tarragona. This authorization allows excavation and construction to begin on the structures needed for the new dry storage facility, located within the protected area of the plant and with capacity to hold up to 73 HI-STORM FW model containers, currently in the licensing process. The commissioning of the ISF is essential, as the fuel pool at Vandellòs II will reach its maximum capacity during the refueling scheduled for April 2027.
INGECID has participated in this project by developing the construction design for the storage area and performing the thermal, structural, and seismic calculations for the ATI structures. This work is part of the ATI-100 project, developed by the Holtec-Ensa joint venture for ENRESA, which covers the design, licensing support, manufacture, and supply of the spent nuclear fuel storage and transport system for the Ascó, Almaraz, Cofrentes, and Vandellòs II power plants. INGECID's participation reaffirms its commitment to engineering excellence and safety in the nuclear sector.
