
The Spanish radioactive waste management agency (ENRESA) has awarded a contract for "Engineering services for the design, licensing, environmental processing and site management of a support facility for the Santa María de Garoña Nuclear Power Plant individualized temporary storage unit” to the joint venture set up with the abbreviated name UTE INGENIERIA INSTALACION DE APOYO ATI GAROÑA 2022. The joint venture formed by IDOM CONSULTING, ENGINEERING, ARCHITECTURE S.A.U.; WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC SPAIN S.A.U. and INGECID INVESTIGACIÓN Y DESARROLLO DE PROYECTOS S.L. has been awarded the €5.7-million contract as the company that has submitted the best value for money bid. The 60-month project involves the construction of a support facility for the Individualized Temporary Storage unit at the Santa María de Garoña NPP (CNSMG), currently completely shut down, where phase 1 of decommissioning is expected to begin from 2022. The auxiliary facility at the individualized temporary storage unit will be used for inspection, maintenance, repair and refurbishment work for the dispatch of ENUN 52-B containers. This project confirms the importance of INGECID’s work in the nuclear sector.
