The summer course on Nuclear Engineering is being taught in the Salón de Grados of the Faculty of Law at the University of Cantabria, in Santander from July 9 to 13, 2018. This course is aimed at both university graduates and professionals working in the sector.
The course aims to improve understanding of the problems and needs affecting businesses in the nuclear sector, especially in academia, in order to find opportunities for collaboration.
Organized within the framework of the Nuclear Industry Cluster of Cantabria (CINC) and the University of Cantabria’s UC-Business forum, the course is intended to bring sector professionals together and enable them to present issues affecting the nuclear industry to the academic community.
INGECID is committed to training as the key for success. To that end, ENGECID staff gave three presentations on the needs and solutions we have been working on in the nuclear energy sector. The INGECID presentations took place on Wednesday, 11 July:
From 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., we presented our work on the use of the NPIM methodology in nuclear power plant decommissioning processes. This BIM-based methodology uses 3D models parameterized with the data needed to facilitate each stage of the decommissioning process.
A presentation on the development of the Auxiliary Shielding Module for spent fuel containers in nuclear power plants was given from 12:00 to 13:00.
Finally, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., we presented our work on calculating the due dose for spent fuel containers and radiological impact in Individualized Temporary Storage facilities.
