On May 17, 18 and 19, 2018 INGECID attended the 7th International BIM Congress, EUBIM 2018 at the School of Building Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia.
Professionals and companies that have already begun using the BIM work methodology to manage construction projects shared their real-life experiences at the congress. The aim of the congress was to link demand to the training needed to get started in BIM, to explore the latest trends and new products from software developers and manufacturers and, of course, to build the connections and contacts that allow the creation of work models based on collaboration.
The EUBIM 2018 congress covered three themes:
- BIM in the university: teachers from the university and external trainers gave talks on their experience of BIM training and the learning processes involved.
- Design and construction using BIM: professionals from the sector discussed how BIM design is changing construction, costing and budgeting processes.
- Real experiences with BIM: the SCARF model, floorspace management for real estate sales, geolocation and digital cities.
INGECID professionals have been attending this congress since its inception. This year, we gave a presentation on design and construction with BIM, detailing how the methodology is used in nuclear power plant dismantling processes, showcasing how BIM improves efficiency throughout the process, with measures to optimize planning including generating virtual simulations, identifying objects, checking radiation data and streamlining inventory processes.
The presentation was structured in 3 parts:
- The introduction, discussing current issues in the nuclear sector and how BIM methodology can be applied to it.
- The development of the NPIM (Nuclear Power Plant Information Modelling) model, focusing on modeling processes for unique installations, structures and components.
- How the model is used during decommissioning.
The presentation concluded with a video summarizing the process.
